Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, Lobykin now resides in Silicon Valley. His work is rooted in the old world craft of stone carving, yet he considers himself an international sculptor and product of globalization and modern technologies. His sculptures in carved stone, but also bronze or stainless steel, have a timeless, contemporary quality and explore connections between what is known and recently emerging insights about the nature of life.
Lobykin is also known for his public artworks and his restoration of landmark architecture and sculpture. He has completed a number of projects in New York, Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, Colorado, and Japan.
Clients have included Stanford University, The Presidio Trust, The City of Cupertino, The City of San Jose, Cathedral Stoneworks Inc., The Denver Public Library, Yale University, The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Cloisters), The Cathedral Church St. John the Divine, The Jewish Museum NYC.
